Gift Cards might sound like an easy simple way to pay for services but they are at the heart of every scam on the internet. Gift Cards can be emptied out in a matter of seconds once the “service provider” has the code. And every good scammer requires that you give them that code before you get the service you are after much less before you see the provider. The rule to live by: If they ask for a Gift Card run the other way as fast as you can and never look back.

Case in point:
10 days ago I fell for a scam on the 2BackPage web site, bought a couple of Gift Cards, shared the code off of one before realizing I was being taken. I held on to the other. Over the past 10 days the service provider has been contacting me regularly wanting me to share the other card and get the massage I was originally after with sweetly written notes of “come hither” allure and occasional demands that I trust her. This morning all that changed.
Today’s texts were written “by” the person’s supposed handler Jose Alberto who threatened both me and my family with violence if I didn’t get him $1000.00 in Gift Cards immediately. The message included pictures of him with his AK47 assault weapon and bloody pictures of those that supposedly failed to follow his orders. The intent was to scare the shit out of me and make me start shelling out money to him/her. The messages came in numerous waves of diatribe and gruesome pictures.
I admit I was scared. I called the police officer I had contacted after the initial loss of my money. He calmly suggested I block all the incoming texts and not to worry. The scammer was probably not local….probably not even in the U.S. and he/she probably didn’t have enough info to cause me or my loved ones any harm. I think it will be a couple weeks before I stop looking behind my back.
